Some of our success stories
Miss Emma was a huge part of my life as I was growing up, and her constant enthusiasm and devotion for the success of every student has carried on inspiring me way past leaving the dance school and into my university life. The centre and all its staff have made me a more confident, creative person, pushing my boundaries which I believe has given me the drive and confidence to pursue my biggest aspirations.
Having always had an interest in dancing, I was persuaded by some friends to try the dance classes with Miss Emma. I have always been a shy person but dancing enabled me to develop my inner confidence as well as provide a release of stress. Naturally, dancing will do this but this was enhanced by the nature of Miss Emma's teaching and the environment she created in the classes. I noticed a change in myself over the course of my time with her, and the confidence and team skills I developed have helped me through university in group projects and delivering presentations as well as during my career now when talking one to one with clients and working as part of an audit team. Unfortunately, I had to leave when I went to university. Since leaving I have tried various classes but have found no teacher that shows the energy, passion and the ability to make sure everyone feels involved like Miss Emma did. I have very fond memories of my time having Miss Emma as a teacher, and I don't think I will ever find anything like it again!
Miss Emma became my dance teacher when I was in my mid teens. I had been dancing from the age of 3, but when Emma became my teacher a whole world of different styles and disciplines opened up before me. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she always pushed me out of my comfort zone whilst at the same time ensuring that I felt 100% supported, which is a rare gift. She always encouraged creativity and brought the most up to date styles and techniques to her school. Being taught by Miss Emma had a huge influence on my future, as I spent many years working as a performer. I am now back at university training to become a speech and language therapist and whilst I am no longer on the stage, I still carry the lessons I learnt with me. I think the arts sometimes get labelled as a fluffy pasttime, however training instills discipline, laser-like focus, the ability to carry yourself with confidence and poise and to stay calm under pressure. Every young performer needs that one teacher who ignites their passion. Miss Emma was mine.
Miss Emma began teaching me around the age of 10, and immediately my attitude towards dance changed. Since a young age, dancing has been my hobby, but under Miss Emma’s instruction my enjoyment for dance became a passion. Her classes are bursting with energy and creativity, and the joy she gets from teaching is reflected by the enjoyment of her students. I saw my ability as a dancer improve greatly due to her skill as a teacher; she has the gift of being able to teach in a way that is engaging rather than intimidating. Having Miss Emma as my dance teacher enabled me to join the dance club at university where my talent as a dancer stood out among other students. Upon returning from university I attended adult dance classes with Miss Emma once again, and had a fantastic experience. In particular, she is one of the best choreographers I know, creating routines that are on a par with those I have seen in the West End. Likewise, she encourages her students to develop their creativity and choreography skills. I now work in London as a journalist but dancing is still a big part of my life.
I have been dancing for over 10 years and I've always thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Miss Emma. My dancing and confidence has improved a lot ever since I started dancing, and it's taught me new things. Miss Emma brings happiness and excitement to every lesson she teaches. The room is full of energy and learning a new dance is always an exciting experience (even when exam season is around the corner). After a bad day, knowing that I had dance would always cheer me up. Coming out of lesson just taught by Miss Emma would leave me shattered, but I'd be really happy - dancing is an escape for me. I've always loved dancing and it's something I'll continue to love.
